My 2009 ford escape has this very annoying squeaking sound that sounds like it is coming from he tailgate door assembly. Has anyone else had this and how did you solve this?

The squeak seems to be only when the car is moving and you are on a bumpy road.

Use the process of elimination. Open the tailgate and drive the car. If it still squeaks - it's not the tailgate.

YES my ford escape is a 2001 and it has this strange squeaky toy like sound that is almost timely. Because this vehicle was a gift I wasn't sure that some cutie baby had left a treasure behind. So the recovery team searched the entire inside and found nothing but still hear the sound. One theory was an animal but it has been over a year now AND the squeak does not sound like a living organic being. It sounds like a rubber ducky or a dog toy. Sorry I have no resolution except to say it is definitely coming from the back and I agree that it may have something to do with the rear hatch hydrolytic system.
Yes, the 2 rubber stoppers that are on the tailgate have become compressed and wiggle when the vehicle is moving creating s squeaking sound. You can adjust the length of the rubber stopper by unscrewing it a little. Or add some rubber pad on the car where the stopper meets up to it. This part is not available to buy, so you have to get the replacement from the dealer
where on the tailgate are these two rubber stoppers? Thank you
