Valve Cover Gasket

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi so i recently just had my valve cover gaskets
replaced on my '09 Mercury Mariner. long story
short, since getting the repair the red oil light lights
up on my dashboard. off and on. so i took it back
to the repair shop and the mechanic basically told
me i was running low on oil so he topped it off for
me and i should be fine. now driving back home,
the oil light came on once again. i'm gonna give it
a day or two to i guess let my car rethink but if the
light still comes on i'm gonna take it back again to
the repair shop. but does anyone know what the
issue could be? i'm not due for an oil change til
1/23.

no. that used to happen before i went and got the valve cover gaskets replaced.

i'm not sure. i would assume its SAE 5W-20 since that what ford recommends.
Did you have an old consumption problem before the gasket replacement?

no, not that i'm aware of. i just took my mariner on a drive and noticed when i drive the oil light isn't on. when i come to a stop it appears, hit the gas, it disappears. i actually drove it back to the shop for a second time to show them and my mechanic believes it might be the oil pressure sensor considering i was full of oil and the engine didn't sound abnormal. he also mentioned getting an engine flush w/ my next oil change in case their might be blockage
Skip the engine flush as it is a waste of money. Apparently you don't have an oil leak but an oil pressure warning. The oil pressure sensor may indeed be the issue.

okay so pretty weird update. yesterday morning doing errands the oil light did its usual shenanigans. oil level is normal. according to my odometer i still have 70% oil life. it wasn't until yesterday afternoon that i noticed the light didn't come on anymore. i thought i might be crazy so i test drove around night time and the oil light didn't come on. driving this morning, it didn't come on. driving home from work, nothing came on. i'm assuming this means my oil pressure sensor isn't the issue? i'm gonna test drive it soon to be sure. do things like this usually happen after getting the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs replaced?
Don't ignore the oil light. You need to find out if you have an oil pressure problem or just a false reading. Your engines life depends on it!
