My car has over 232,000 miles. Is it worth keeping? How well does engine and Tranny hold up on this model?

Question type: General

I am concerned about how many more miles I can get from this car, with such high miles on it. Anyone out there know if they can go over 235,000 miles with no major problems?

If everything is working properly, then yes! My step-mom has an '04 Vibe with almost 225k miles on it. If you take care of it good then it will last longer. My brother's wife had a '07 Kia that was about to fall apart at 68k miles.

Mine 2003 Sable is at 212 and running great except for a quick fix every now and then...Water pump, starter, plugs and wires, etc....Even if a fix is a couple of hundred dollars, it's still cheaper than monthly car payments and I really do love my Sable....It's been good to me, never stranded me anywhere...It's just a good driving car...All the local mechanics say that this car was made to keep going....

All I can say is ----> Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance!! Keep driving it if it's running good. I have a 1998 GMC pick-up with 237,000. It's got a 4.3 liter V-6. It's been a great truck. I change oil every 3000 and rotate tires every 6000. Transmission fluid every 50-60000 Then other stuff as it comes up. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

as long as the transmission is working fine.... i.e. not hanging up in gears too long, or shifting hard, and as long as the engine is running good and you take care of it, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to make that 235k mileage. If there is a lot of work to be done, then you need to weigh the options. that vehicle as it stands is only going to bring you about 3,200 if you sell it outright. If you trade it in you will probably only get about 2,500 - 2,800. but because of how many miles are on it you may only get 2,000. It's hard to tell what your local dealers will offer you. My advice... As long as it is mechanically sound.... run it

My 1998 mercury sable has 261,000 klms on it I purchased it 4 yrs ago it is the best car I have ever owned. My friend has a car that's only 4 yrs old and when she starts it up you can hear knocking mine never. Oh I should mention that I live in Red Deer Alberta Canada where it's very cold minus 34 today. I plug it in but usually it's too cold so I skip it and I don't even have to touch the gas and she fires up. And the heater is amazing burn your feet off.lol The only things that are inferior are the service light stays on since the day I bought it. The mechanics say they all do that. The other is where the dash board meet over top of the steering wheel meet has separate a tiny bit. This car was purchased for 1800 and is the best car I have ever owned.

I have read that the 3.0 eng. Are a very good motor, and if maintained 300,000 is not unheard of..

I have a 2002 mercury sable and it runs great. I did edit new tires on it and they got 190,000 miles on it. I want to see it get over 230 and then I might think about it I keep it in the garage, so I know it keeps up well.
