Lots of issues - I think they are related?

Asked by Meghan Oct 13, 2017 at 09:55 AM about the 2009 Nissan Versa SL Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The air in my car has stopped blowing anything on and off for almost 2 years
now. Sometimes it will work fine, other times it won't blow anything for
weeks at a time. Other times it will blow for day and then the next day it
won't - You never know if the air will work or not.

I also have an issue with shifting gears. Only sometimes, 2-3 days out of the
week, it's almost as if the car doesn't recognize that my foot is on the break
so it "locks up" my gear shift and I can't move it from park to reverse or
drive. Sometimes I just have to try several times in the course of 2-10
minutes and then it'll work all of a sudden.

Sometimes, maybe every other week, it also won't recognize when I take my
key out of the ignition. When you leave your key in when you have this car it
beeps when you open the door. I normally have to put the key back in and
take it back out a few more times and then works again and it stops
beeping... As of last night, no matter how many times I put the key in and
took it out, it wouldn't recognize I took the key out of the ignition and it still
doesn't today.

I think it may be fuses or control panels or something like that semi-related?
I don't have a lot of money on repairs...what do y'all think it is and how
much to fix it? Thanks!

Just drive it on the days that everything is working properly.

Bob that was funny to us other gurus....have you checked all the fuses and relays? Test relays for control and resistance. Sounds to me that these are separate issues. AC or blower motor? AC could be the clutch relay. Blower could be motor or resistor. Ignition switch and brake switch. I would have someone test all these components. Do not start replacing without testing

The transmission issues might be due to the infamous Nissan CVT transmission which is probably the worst ever made. I would talk to your Nissan dealer about replacing it at Nissan's cost. The key problem is probably a bad ignition switch.

The air problem could be a bad relay, fuse, switch or bad fan motor.

For the shift problem you need to check one switch in the brake foot, this switch have a rubber bushing, sometimes this bushing is broke or the switch is broken. For the A/C this car have a problem with the a/c blower.
