Does the 2009 E550 have limited slip in the rear on 2wd models?

Asked by Brendo7 Dec 27, 2016 at 04:30 PM about the 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 550 Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 E550 (not 4matic) and I am planning to go snow skiing.  I would
like to know if it has a limited slip (driving both rear wheels) rear end.

Check your build sheet if you still have it or run the VIN through an online VIN checker.

The standard rear diff is not an LSD. MB uses the ESP to "improve" over a locking rear diff. In the real world, it functions pretty well, though in certain extreme circumstances can be fooled by widely varied grip levels. There are true LSD's available for approx. 1.5K and up...useful for the track or drag racing, but superfluous in the real world.
