My 2009 town and country turns off while driving

Asked by Sandra Mar 17, 2016 at 02:19 PM about the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country LX FWD

Question type: General

my van will turn off while I am driving.  There is no rhyme or reason when it happens.  I might me on the highway or at a stop light.  I can't make it happen for the mechanic and two times they have inspected it and have found nothing.  I'm afraid to drive my kids around this could easily lead to an accident.  The recalled FOB has been replaced but this has not fixed the problem.  Any help would be appreciated.  Anyone else experience the same thing?

I've had this problem & it turned out to be the dash instrument cluster needed replacing. I discovered that a swift BANG on the top of the dash will kick the cluster back to working order as you're driving it, but that is only a temporary "fix". Hope that helps.

Hi Sandra, my 2010 T & C shut off while idling at a light or when you take off. So, this sounds like the EGR valve needs to be replaced. I had mine replaced and no issues at all. It worked for my 2010 T&C! It's very dangerous I agree! Chrysler should know to fix these issues but they let it keep happening! The mechanic had to keep the car over night since it mostly happened within the first 1 - 2 hrs of driving it.

My 2008 Town and Country was having electrical problems. Wipers would go on on there own, speedometer would stop working, lights would flash, etc. we had it at the dealership for months. I could never get it to do it for them. Finally they took it for a drive and they loaded the car up, cause that's when it seemed to happen, and finally it did it for them. My driver side seatbelt in the very back was making my whole electric system shortout every time someone used that seatbelt! Had it fixed and it's been great since!
