2005 Ford Escape - lurching, stuttering feeling while in motion?

2005 Ford Escape XLT, 4x4, 71k miles. I just purchased this vehicle. This is
a bit challenging to describe...When I'm already traveling at an average
speed (say, 50) and press the gas slightly just to maintain the speed, or if my
foot is steady on the accelerator but come to a slight incline, I feel a stutter or
jerking or lurching feeling. The problem was more pronounced after 4 hours
on the highway. I'm not sure if the engine, transmission, 4 wheel drive or
other component is responsible... I've actually felt this before in a 98 Ford
Explorer. Any thoughts as to what might be the issue here? Thank you!

I'm in the same boat as you just with my 94 sierra...check ur plugs to see if they are worn..if they are do a full tune up. It can be engine related, trans related, even catalytic convertor related. I've gotten to to point that I'm replacing my cat to see if it helps
