09 Ford EDGE SEL AWD Coolant Petcock question.

Asked by migration_windlake Jul 29, 2013 at 01:08 PM about the 2009 Ford Edge SEL AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I want to do a coolant flush and replace with a new antifreeze. I have few questions:
1. Where is the coolant petcock? Does 09 EDGE SEL AWD have it or not? and where it is if there is?
2. My car is using Ford OEM coolant: Motorcraft Gold coolant. Can I change it to Peak Extended Life Antifreeze and Coolant after the flush (not mixing)?? Any one has an experience with PEAK brand? I checked online and seems this coolant is pretty good. Any idea or recommendations?

Thanks. Any help will be appreciated.

Where do you live ? In some states there is a heavy fine for changing coolant in your own yard . If you spill, its considered a "Environmental Hazard" which means the man from the DEP gets to visit you and give you a big fine. In CT these fines are allowed to be placed on current and former residence or land owners even for incidents occurring 1 year in the past if they find evidence of a spill.

Thank you for your notice. I am in Canada. I check online but didn't see anything says it's forbidden. But I will reconsider it and make sure I am 100% confident to do that without any spill on the ground. Otherwise, I will take it to dealer. Thanks again for your info. It's good to know.

One more question, if I use distilled water to flush the coolant, do I need to collect used water and dispose it as the used antifreeze to Eco station? or just let it go with no worries? Thanks.
