White SMOKE

Asked by Luke Aug 06, 2018 at 03:29 PM about the 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've started to notice that after the truck has sat awhile when I start it, it puffs
out a little bit of white smoke from the exhaust and every once in awhile
when stopped at a light and then accelerating again. Any thoughts on what
would cause that or where to start with repairing?

Thanks!

It is normal depending on weather conditions for a certain amount of water condensation to form in the exhaust this comes out the tail pipe as steam when you first start the vehicle but should burn off in a few minutes. If it continues for any length of time more than say 10 minutes you probably have a head gasket problem

What weight oil do you use and when was the last time you had an oil change ? Oil could be leaking past the piston rings if oil has lost its viscosity.
