Can my timing chain be bad if my 2009 dodge ram sometimes pings or sounds like my motor has a rattle in it when I take off. Smoke comes out of tail pe when it does this. Doesn't do it all the time.

not chain, but ease up on gas when this happens that's a distroyer, run a good cleaner thru the tank .has this truck been not on a 60 mph run for a while, especially a long up hill workout?
Have put best gas in truck and sea foam in tank. Thought it may be gas problem. But that hasn't helped. Yes it has been on. 60 mph for along way many times
possibly a failed knock sensor

chains will stretch...starts sounding like a can0folgers with marbles in it...look at the presser foot/wear shoe and hydraulic tensioner...these ole boys can only provide as much tension and then run out of room...that's when the noise begins....and starts losing cohesion~
Are you using the recommend octane gasoline? Are you switching between 89 and 87? Don't do that, it can cause a knock. I doubt it's a knock sensor on a Dodge. What color is the smoke? Black is unburned gas. A MAP sensor or even a O2 sensor can contribute to the problem.
I have a 2007 dodge ram 1500 slt. It just started making a noise that to me sounds like a baseball card on bicycle spokes or the fan rubbing on something. I've checked the tension of the serpentine belt and it's tight. I've also looked for any play in the pulleys but nothing is loose. Any ideas what it could be?
