Coolant System Boil Over

Asked by GuruKQJM1 Dec 12, 2019 at 04:43 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2010 Camaro, LS3, 122k. On the last 3 times driving the vehicle the coolant reservoir has boiled over after vehicle shut down. Please consider the following facts: No recent mechanical work, Rad cap appears to be in good condition with no sign of wear, I far as I can tell the vehicle does not overheat, fans work, coolant reservoir was empty and refilled, rad was full, running the vehicle with rad cap off no sign of bubbles however coolant did boil over at 172 degrees prior to fan operation. No signs of smoke in exhaust. No obvious signs of leaking under and around water pump. Top and bottom rad Hoses appear to be in decent condition no signs of wear. Refilled reservoir and attempted to bleed the system but encountered rad boil over at 174 degrees. Vehicle was shut down and red cap reinstalled.
Test drive vehicle approx 20 mins, coolant temp reading 174. Boiling noise evident with leaking from reservoir tank.

Try a new thermostat , don't buy cheap , then maybe a new rad cap.

I did leave out on detail. The heater works very well. Followup question - If the water pump is faulty wouldnt that make the car over heat under load?
