Belt Squealing / Engine Cuts Out

Asked by Grandy Nov 23, 2014 at 06:25 PM about the 2009 Kia Rondo LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My engine acts like it has cut out, (dash indicator lights come on) but the car is still
driving, and it sounds like a belt may be going out or slipping. This has happened a
couple of times, both times after going through a bit of a puddle at a low rate of speed,
there wasn't a big splash up into the engine, so I am unsure if that is causing the
problem, but the belt sound stops when put in park.

sounds like a pulley is bad in your system. usually the tensioner, but also could be the a/c pulley or the alternator. since the dash light come on, i am going to bet on the alternator. you will have to remove the belt to check these.
