My Rondo 2009 Is Having Starting Problems

Make sure all the battery connections are tight and clean. You may want to have the starter tested as the solenoid may be going out.

Try the least expensive and most logical thing. Clean battery cables make sure there is no corrosion and that cables are not brittle and to make sure they are tight. If you still have the same issue, Check battery voltage when it happens,should be minimum 12.4vdc. If voltage is ok, replace starter.

Seems these cars have a lot of starting issues. I had this problem , dealer said I would need to get new keys as the computer was thinking car was being stolen , anti theft . I did get new keys and ignition locks , problem still happens. What I found helped the best was to take the key out of the ignition and put it back in , starts everytime! Now I have discovered another issue, the motor revs high at times and when I go to park it doesnt totally shut off. First time I thought oh the fan belt is just coolning the engine like my honda civic did, no big deal..?. ONLY WHEN I RETURNED after finishing my shift, the battery was dead. Now I listen real good when I turn off the car, if it still has something humming I turn the key back to half a full crank and everything nicely shuts off.

Thanks for the he replies. Here's the latest update from my problem. Two days ago I dropped and left car with dealership. They were hoping that they would experience a non-start to help with diagnoses. However car ends up starting. This morning visited dealership. Service manager indicated car started this morning. While I was they he went out to car to try start again. It started. Then while talking to me he tried again, and finally it did not start. He used to be a technician and explained to me that 99% the problem was the starter. He explained that reason why car may not start is that the starter may be on a "dead spot". Each time you turn the key there may be some movement inside the starter, hereby starting on next turn of key or maybe not. After he witnessed the non-start, he brought out a current technician from the garage to witness the non-start. Guess what happened, the car started. Taking into consideration of what a few mentioned in their replies to me here, and listening to the Service Manager not wanting to "guess"what the problem is, I proceeded to have the starter replaced. Not a cheap Repair but the Service Manager reduced the cost of the replacement part & also some of the labour cost. They also offered to me a free loaner car to use until repairs were done. I'll have a better idea over the next two we is if problem has truly been fixed. I'll let you all know in a follow up response. Forgot to mention that my vehicle has about 250,000 km on the odometer.

Did that fix it, or are there more chapters to your story?

I have had the same problem for over a year. Car won't start. Sometimes for days. Sometimes it starts the next try. Sometimes it sits 20 minutes and starts. one click. Won't turn over. Battery is new. I've tried everything suggested in the websites: new keys, shifting gears, etc. Have twice towed it to a shop. It starts when I get there. Never experience the problem at a shop, and they can't fix it if it isn't malfunctioning. Extremely frustrating.

by the way, my car is a 2008 Kia Rondo.

Im having problems with the ignition key not turning! When it finally turns after pounding on the key while in the ignition. Im able to drive, then the battery light comes on! Now battery is draining and brings the car to a stop! Now it just clicks when i try to start it! A boost will take but the battery light immediately comes on and the car shuts off! Any suggestions 150 thousand miles.

@GuruXXP1M This is an old post but sounds like 2 different issues. 1 the ignition lock switch needs to be replaced. 2. The chdarging system is not working, when it runs, take it to your local auto parts store like Autozone and they will checkout the charging system for free. Do a visual inspection to make sure the belt, fuses, wires are ok.

When you only get a click when turning it over. It is the starter. Best to replace it. You can plan roulette with it sometimes starting. You can push it and try turning the key and sometimes that works but not worth the risk. As far as the key "locking" in ignition and not turning. leave the key in the ignition and grab the steering wheel with both hands and shake the wheel left to right with some force. that should allow you to then turn the key over.
