2010 Fusion SEL engine shut off when AC was turned on

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
A few days ago when I turned on AC (first time of this year) while waiting for traffic light, the battery light was on and engine shut off. It drives normal when I turned off AC and restart the car. This problems continued for a few days. Battery is normal. However today I tested again, and everything back to normal, i.e. engine works normal while AC on. I wonder what the problem could be. It was scary. Imagine if I turn on AC while I am driving on highway

Battery light coming on was probably because the engine was off, and probably not a cause for the stall. I also do not think you'd have to worry about the engine stalling while you're driving along, as the engine speed is high enough as to not be stopped by the extra load of the AC compressor. That being said, if your AC had not been used in months(but it does come on when you use defrost), it's possible that the oil in the system had collected in the compressor or elsewhere, in such a way that the compressor is very bogged down temporarily, and the extra load from that might be enough to stop the engine at idle while in gear.
Thank you, Rod. Your answer made me feel better. Do I still need to go to the dealer to get if checked?
Thanks a lot, Tennisshoes. I will go to parts shop again and get it checked.
Im having the same issue. first, throttle body was replaced - did not help. no check engine light is on. dealer scanned and found code po625 in the system, checked all wires, connectors and plugs... spend 6 hours and could not find the solution... i had to pay for the work they perfomed but It does the same thing... may be alternator replacement will help?
