Take an automatic transmission to a shop and have the fluid replaced via a replacement machine. You will only get about 1/2 of the fluid out by draining it.
The transmission pan has a drain plug in it. If you drain and replace the fluid in the pan three or four times, it comes out nice and clean. After the third drain, remove the pan and replace the filter and pan gasket. Don't read tighten the bolts for the pan too tight or it will leak. It cost you a little more in tranny fluid but it's still a lot cheaper than taking it to the shop.
Also clean out the inside of the pan and the magnets and put the magnets back where the indicator marks are. Get a rubber pan gasket instead of a cork one..
You have to drive it around for a few miles between each drain and fill.
When I did this and only cost me about $40 including the filter.
You have to drive it around between each drain and fill in order to mix the new fluid with the old fluid in the torque converter.
