I understood it to be not the best thing for a car to be sitting around a lot? My question is: I have been looking at a 2010 car for purchase with only 40,000 km on it ( that's 24,854 miles for our American friends) will that have any kind of a negative effect on it and any cause any kind of problems? Thanks for any help.

I have a 75 Ford Elite listed in my profile that sat abandoned for 13 years. Changed some fluids and primed the oil pump and fired it right up. I don't see any problem with a 2010 model with 40,000km or 25k miles on it firing up, even if it's sat for many months. If it hasn't moved at all you may have some bad tires, even if they look good they may have gotten some flat spots. Change all fluids, add some gas additives to the tank. Change fuel filter. You can also crank engine without letting it start to allow oil pressure to build up, couple ways to do that (pull fuel pump fuse, pull coil wires) Can drip some oil down spark plug holes if really concerned about lubing engine from a long slumber. If car sat in an area with a lot of moisture check underneath for any rot, number one killer of cars that have sat a long time.
