2010 Chevy malibu has 2k rpms when I start it.

Asked by Arturo Apr 05, 2018 at 10:30 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had my sparkplugs replaced and the mechanic said
he cleaned the throttle. Now the car will be in park and stay
at about 2k rpms, then in drive it drops to a little under 1k
rpm. It's a 2.4l malibu

That sounds like a normal fast idle when the engine is cold. You could have the mechanic check to see if a vacuum line is loose.

disconnect the battery ground let sit for about 20 minutes and reconnect , might reset the throttle motor for ya, !

I agree with both of the above answers but, in my case, I did what James says and it corrected the problem.

when you do a throttlebody service often you have to hook your scan tool up and do a throttlebody relearn. Bring it back to to your mechanic and have him take care of this, I will not go away by its self
