Land Rovers are the least reliable vehicles ever created. They are over- engineered and cost a fortune to fix. Avoid them at all costs unless you hate money.
I agree with Matthew. Horrible vehicles. They can be horribly unreliable, cost a fortune to fix and it is tough to find independent mechanics who are even willing to work on them.
My experience has been mixed. On pre 2003 Range Rovers reliablity was bad. With newer vehicles it has significantly improved. I own a 2008 Range Rover full size supercharged. It is a very fun vehicle to drive, confortable and even though I have had some mechanical failures, they are not more than I have experienced on other vehicles I have owned, included a Toyota Sequoia. Biggest issues I had with the rover were the need to replace the right air strut bag ($400 parts and $130 labor), aircon had to be rebuild after 103k miles ($380 parts and labor). Other than that it has been the regular oil changes, brake, pads and rotors, etc. Even though I live in a fairly remote area with not many Land Rover options I have been for the most part trouble free.
Less maintenance and more reliable than Lexus. We have a 2010 Range Rover-oil changes are every 15K, not every 5K with a Lexus. Replaced a water pump at 60K and it cost $585 at the dealer, no other repairs and it looks and drives like new.
Changing oil every 15k is a big mistake if you plan on keeping the RR. Don't mistake long intervals for reliability. RR (and others) give these absurd oil change intervals to make the maintenance costs low (on paper) for advertising purposes.
15K is more than fine if you use a high quality synthetic. There is no molecular breakdown with synthetics even at 25K miles and pollutants are minimal due to excellent air filtration in RR. Idea of 5K or even 7K oil changes is a dated notion unless you are doing a large percentage of short trips. (under 10 miles)
Bro F_O_R let him do what’s working for him. If it ain’t broke don’t Fix it am I right guys.
