heater not working

Asked by Toochie1 Jan 18, 2016 at 04:35 AM about the 2010 Chevrolet Impala LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the fan to the heater (Iguess) is making noise and running even when the car is not turned on. I could simply open the driver door and the fan will start with this loud clunking type noise for about 20 seconds then shut off. there is no heat on the driver side and only faint warmth on the passenger side. there is a strong blow of cold air

I have one of these, you have several things going on. #1 the blower motor resistor needs to be replaced. Then as far as the cold air, if your temperature gauge is up toward the middle of the gauge, then the thermostat probably is good. So that would leave blend door actuators that are not working. The age of the blower motor it could make noise when cold. Mine does until warmed up but it works so I'm not replacing. These things are easily fixed if you know what you are doing, but otherwise take it in to be fixed at a trusted local garage. Not the dealer unless you have the monies to pay a dealer.
