Car won't heat up

I have a 2010 Chevy Impala... For about a week my
car won't heat heat up, the gauge is at cold, also it
doesn't blow heat or anything.. The check engine
light is on and It says "turn A/C off engine
overheating" a friend of mine says it's the
thermostat but I just want to be sure. What do you
guys think.

If that temperature gauge is not climbing up to just half way, good indication that the thermostat needs replacing.

You may have to replace the temperature sending unit also, do the thermostat first.

That thermostat temp. sender unit can be the root cause of many codes. That and the 02 sensor tells the ECM how to adjust all other sensors.
