I suspect my brake pads are wearing out. How much time do I have to get them fixed?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I noticed today that my car's brakes are making a screeching sound. This is my first car, so I'm not sure, but from what I've looked up online, it sounds like the brake pads are wearing out. I won't be able to get to a mechanic until Monday (today is Thursday). Will I be okay during my daily commute until then? I drive about 7mi to work and back. It's a very short commute (about 20min).

I think Monday will be OK. If your hear grinding (metal on metal) it is too late for your rotors.

If you can see your rotors through the wheels and the surface is smooth you don't need to worry.
