What are the best wheel and tire sizes for winter on a 2010 Ford Focus? I was told Blizzaks on the stock 17" rim... cant imagine low-profile winter tires handling well in snow and slush?

It's not the profile, its the tread design! I had very good grip on a BMW X-3 with Nexen N3000's & BFG G force kwd tires on a Mini-S Cooper Works. Look at the directional deep groove tread design. They chanel out water & grip in snow & mud. Many times I saw myself passing cars in the pouring rain on the freeways doing 60-80 mph! the Nexens got me through snow storms in Utah. Otherwise use any good snow tires or or off road tires like BFG T-A's will do, your choice of sizes. Snow tires are temporary anyhow arent' they ?

BFG "'G force, kwd's 225X/R18X/35 on my JCW Mini-S shownn. Max grip but noisey with the diamond tread design, changed out to very quiet Yokohamma S Drives when these BFG's wore out.
