Looking to purchase another Explorer! We had a 2005 and loved It but it was totaled a few weeks ago:/ We really like the look of the Eddie Bower edition but I'm hearing conflicting reviews on that model. Has anyone had any problems with this edition? Comments/suggestions welcome! Also, what can we expect to pay for a 2010!

The Eddie Bauer Edition is LOADED with amenities. I had a '92 EB and absolutely loved it ...

I have owned four explorer. From 1996 to 2003. All except the 2003 were build sturdy and could be considered a truck, instead of an SUV. The 90's models are still clicking along with over 200K on each and only a tranny rebuild in two with everything else clicking along. The 2003 I purchases stopped being built like a truck. The suspension has changed and required replacing around 70K. (I do my own work) Nick-nack stuff popping up. A/C blend door went out, had to replace. Water pump, engine fan, one thing after another. Not expensive parts, but dragging out the tool box at 62 years gets old quick when you are use to better longivity with previous models. My last vehicle was a pickup. Don't consider the Explorers a truck or suv anymore. More like a crossmatch.

I have two explorers currently a 98 V8 XLT AWD(my favorite) very tough like OJ said basically a truck. did a engine rebuild at 100xxx miles and tranny rebuild with only a couple replacements so far, thermostat and blower motor minor things really. The sway bar link went out a couple days ago on it easy fix tho, low cost at the part. I also have a 00 XLS V6 been running just fine since i bought it in December havent had to replace anything but oil and such. I would go for an older model personally if you want something tough anything older then 03 just becomes weaker IMO.

from 2000 to 2005 the ford explorer has a known transmission flaw. I was talking to a buddy of whom works at a transmission shop and he said that 8 out of 10 are lemons. and to reapir it can cost up to 3000. 2006 and new are running a different tranny. As for average pricing for a 2010 explorer you'd probably looking 25000
