Chevy Traverse won't start, starter not engaging
Asked by Guru9V1PZ Jun 18, 2017 at 10:54 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse 1LT FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2010 Chevy Traverse. Ran fine on a 500 mile trip, but a few days later,
wouldn't start. Put the key in and turned it to "on" and the traction control off
light is on, the check engine light is on, the gas gauge shows empty (its not),
and there is no info from the computer such as oil life or fuel economy info.
Turn the key to start and all the dashboard lights turn off and nothing happens.
Checked battery voltage and it's 13.1 volts. Checked battery connections and
they're good. Tried to hook up my obd2 code reader, but it couldn't connect to
the computer. Any suggestions?

try disconnecting / leaving it off for 10-15 min, then reconnecting battery. Maybe just a 'hard reset' would help.
Went out 12 hours later and she fired right up, but the check engine light was on. Plugged my code reader in ( if you own a Traverse you better get one) and the fault code was U0100. That basically means that communication was lost with the ECM. Guess I'm gonna be checking connectors and grounds associated with the ECM.
I have a 2010 Traverse and the same exact thing is happening. Engine won’t start, Gas gauge shows empty but it has gas. Traction control off light on check engine light on. Please let me know if you solved your problem. I am done with this vehicle. I’ve had so many problems already with it and don’t want to take it to the dealership again now that it’s no longer under warranty.
Replace fuse for ECM 1 And for ECM if code U0100 is popping up
Mine was a blown EMC1 15 amp fuse. This happened after a short in my alternator and it started smoking bad depleated a charged battery in 15 mins. I tried starting it and it ran for 5 secs then died. Changed out alternator and tried to start and nothing but the check engine flashing fast. Was about to tow it to shop which they would of screwed me for a new computer I’m sure. So check EMC fuses

Same problem with 2010 traverse anyone ever figure out the problem
It is most likely a bad ground on the back of the engine block right near the power steering pump. On the passenger side you will see a conduit of wiring running over the engine towards the back. Give this conduit a grntle tug or wiggle towards the front of the vehicle. If it helps and it starys up you have a bad ground connection down there.

I had this problem: everything worked until turning ignition to the spring-loaded "start" position. Accessories and On worked and I even jumpered 30 and 87 on the CRNK relay in the fuse block to test the starter which proved starter was fine. Removed battery post and checked grounds (which were fine). Further research led me to suspect the starter switch which is on the steering column. There's a few YouTube videos on this and it's even easier if you have the telescoping steering column. I just got the ~$15 part in from Amazon and got it in and that was the problem. Car has ~155,000 miles on it and it's a 2009.

Guru9ZTSHZ is this the same as the ignition switch? I just had the ignition switch replaced(before I saw this post) and it is still doing it, that's why I'm asking if is the same?
