2010 outback intermittent issue
Asked by GuruD5RB8 Aug 11, 2017 at 11:52 AM about the 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi, we have a 2010 outback, 160k miles,
transmission went out at 152 and was
rebuilt. Drove several thousing miles, no
problems. Out of nowhere, on a very
irregular basis, we have an issue when we
hear a squeak/squeeze and the car
hesitates. No warning lights come on.
Took it to a car repair. Could not duplicate
it (of course) and said he could find no
problems in the computer history. Any
ideas?????

Hey s.g.b., there really isn't much more to tell. MOST of the time this seconds-long hesitation accompanied by a sweek/squeel is 10 to 30 miles after starting driving for the day. But sometimes it's 80 miles down the road. It totally stopped for a month after it was not driven for a week. It will do it with or without cruse control on. We think it doesn't do it when we r coasting. We will try to get a video of it.....
Sorry, I really don't know how to tell the difference.

After seeing that you had a CVT "rebuilt", I'm leaning toward there being an issue therein, as these trannies are NOT generally rebuildable. I'd take it up with the rebuilder or whoever installed it for you. A used CVT is a safer (and cheaper) bet. On the other hand maybe you have something simple like a binding DOJ in one of the half-shafts. Check the cheap stuff first.
