2010 Outback limited 2.5r with CVY

Asked by Frank JR Feb 11, 2018 at 02:29 PM about the 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought my 2010 Outback approx 6 months ago.  i
live in Canada sp 100,000 klm is approx 60k miles.
Everytime i travel more than 100k (60 mile) the oil
light comes on.  I took it to Subaru and they said
that there is a known issue but Subaru requires a
tracking on the amount of oil used.  So now i need
5o bring the car in every other week for them to
check for oil loss.  Then they said IF subaru
approves then They Will replace the top end or my
engine.  (anyone else have similar experiences?)

If you go 60,000 miles you run low on oil? I have never heard of a known oil consumption issue on the EJ engines. The newer FB engines can use oil due to faulty oil control rings and Subaru will replace the short block after an oil consumption test shows excessive oil use. You car should have the older EJ engine.

100 kilometers per hour equals 62 mph. If your engine has low oil pressure past 60 then there is some other issue such as a worn engine or oil pump.

I am sorry for the confusion. when I travel over 60 miles (distance my oil light comes on). So i dont often travel more than 60 mils therefore i don't know if it is distance ran of if it is the way I drive my Subaru. Thank you for the Support

If your engine runs low on oil in 60 miles there is a major problem. Are you having to top it off every 60 miles?
