Gas hand bad or something else?

Yesterday I was putting gas in my car but the gas pump
cut off at $3 yesterday saying that it was full but before I
put gas in my car the gas hand was sitting at the first
warning notch for gas. When I took the gas handle out I
could see the gas at the top of my tank. I’ve never had a
problem like this before and the car it’s self works
perfectly fine.

I think there is a problem with the gas tank venting or the hose that goes to the gas tank.
