Plug/Patch or Replace tire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Got a very small nail in the tire, went to remove it to see if it actually had
managed to puncture. A very small airleak started when i had removed the nail
halfway, so i push it all the way back in where it was.
I'm getting conflicting reports on whether a plug/patch is fine where the nail is,
or should i just replace the tire.

That is in the top of the sidewall of the tire. You won't find a shop that will patch that. The nail has to be beyond the first tread of the tire towards the middle to use a patch safety. Personally I would replace the tire in this instance. Replace two tires at a time, be it in front or back.
Thank you much for your response. I got my local mechanic to order a tire for me for replacement. Since the tires are less than a year old and the tread is pretty much still new, he said i only needed to replace it, putting the new tire on the back and moving one of the back ones to the front. My father and a mechanic were very optimistic about just plugging and patching. But as an Uber driver, i wanted to make sure i could be 100% sure that the tire was safe and not have someone elses life put in danger. Also even if it was just me driving and my dad had plugged it, if i had it blow out i wouldn't want my father thinking that he had done something wrong or have it weighing on his mind. Better safe than sorry.
