Why does my 2010 Honda CRV only get 17.5 - 19.0 miles per gallon in the cold menths? I do mostly city driving.

Question type: General

I am getting only 16.9 - 18.0 per gallon city driving in winter and only 18 - 19 per gallon in summer. I do not speed, am retired and put on only about 100 -130 miles a week on the car. I live in a mountainous area.  How do I improve the mileage?

Low tire pressure is the number one killer of MPG. Also if you haven't recently done so do a tune up if your are near the recommended mileage to do so. Check the air filter and replace it if necessary. Fuel mileage will drop some in the winter due to starting a vehicle and letting it warm up. Also winter grade gasoline will have a very slight negative effect on MPG. Mountains aren't going to help either. I would be interested in the mileage on your vehicle.
