2010 Altima CVT transmission problem

Asked by GuruZTFRF Oct 21, 2017 at 09:51 PM about the 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Altima (over 120,000 miles) suddenly gets weird. First, its acceleration
something retarded last week, and now when it accelerates from 0 mile, car
body terribly vibrates. Once it gets over ~20 miles, there is no problem.
Driving over 20 miles is very soft. Only at the low speed, it shows such a
serious things. It seemed CVT transmission part goes wrong. What you guys
expect this symptom. And how much you likely expect the cost.

You have not heard the the Nissan CVT is the worst ever made? Go to Nissan and ask for a new transmission at their expense.

Here is my issue. I have a 2010 Nissan Altima and took it to the dealer last month due to not being able to accelerate no more than 20 mph when the temperature outside is below 30 degrees. Also during the past summer, I would get a whining noise after driving for over an hour. Last month I paid 250.00 to have the fluid changed out. Fast forward to this week, the car is back at the dealers due to having the same issue of not being able to go any faster than 20 mph with the gas peddle to the floor. I called today to check on my car and was told that the car came back with no error codes and that they were unable to duplicate the reason that I brought it in for. Nissan will not pay for the replacement of the CVT transmission without error codes. I showed the service department the video that I made a video on Youtube of how the car acts after sitting to warm up over 30 minutes and still not going over 20 mph. My videos are on youtube talking about what i'm having to deal with right now . Youtube Mssensational Mechele

I have a 2014 maximal that I have had foR 9 months with no problems until the first hot day of the season when the transmission started whining and slipping. I pulled into a rest stop and let the car cool down and added a Qt of Nissan CVT fluid. The car drove fine for a hour and started acting up again. I bought a transmission cooler and installed it with a fluid change and the problem is gone for the most part but it doesn't feel the same as before but it is fully functional. to people need to add a transmission oil cooler for the hot weather. It seems Nissan did not add enough cooling for the CVT TRANSMISSION. IT cost about $80.00 for a good transmission cooler online and I did the work myself.

Don’t buy a Nissan, if you have one and it still runs, SELL IT! I own a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder that has gone thru 2 transmissions, currently needing replacement again. I also own a 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5L SL with 150,000 miles on it and the transmission just went out, even with a after market oil cooler installed. Nissan will not cover it. Loyalty means nothing to Nissan. They are completely aware of the defected cvt transmission, and continue to sell these POS lemons to those that do not know better. Even after thousands of dollars in repairs, replacing the transmission is only a temporary fix. There is no solution, it will only fail again in a matter of time. Save yourself the endless nightmare and sell your Nissan ASAP and buy a Toyota. The fact that Nissan sells these defective vehicles, should be criminal. Spread the word to anyone that owns a Nissan or is thinking of buying one. There is no peace of mind or happiness that comes with owning a NISSAN
