How to remove black interior panel on drivers side door

Cannot get the panel. How do you
disconnect the latch mechanism

I believe what you're talking about is the metal rod that is basically L shaped on the end, and is connected to the metal lever via a plastic clip. If so, you should be able to twist the plastic clip sideways of the main rod (swiveling the clip on the short part of the L), in order to free the rod from the clip, and then pull the metal rod out of the clip.
