Changed a dead battery, now lightening bolt is on and starter won't turn. Why?

Battery went dead so replaced it with a new one. Now nothing happens when
the key is turned and the lightening bolt symbol is on. All the electrics on the
car work, the starter motor just acts dead. What in changing the battery would
kill the starting circuit?

Did you use the memory saver tool before disconnecting main power? If not then you most likely set off the security system lockdown. The owners manual will have the shut down procedure listed for you make and model specifically. In severe cases sometimes the vehicle will need towed to a dealer for a re-flash of the system to bring it back up. So be aware that you may need to do that.
often alignment has to be just so, else interference and misalignment may take place, inspect the starter, make sure the case to face seems right without a shim~
