My 2010 charger RT makes a sound when driving 25 mph MDS issues?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My charger rt when driving between 25 and 35 MPH, the MDS kicks on at 25 and I hear a sound that sounds like someone is spinning a carnival wheel, or baseball cards in a kid's bike spokes......the dealer replaced the MDS solenoids, but it still makes that loud sound at low speeds when the MDS kicks on.

Have you been running only 5W-20 oil in it? Everyone says if anything other than that, it will screw up your MDS.
do you know if the P01 recall was done or applies to your vehicle???...the only other thing is either you have a small leak in one of the cylinders that is shut off or one of the MDS lifters is broken and making noise ...if you use the wrong grade oil it will set a code for it and turn the light on
Oil is fine, they did a trans diagnostic ,installed new mds solenoids, but at low speeds when in mds mode, still get that sound outside the car. when I drive with windows down and drive down a street with close buildings at 25 mph, you can hear the spinning sound bounce back at you. sounds like spinning the prize wheel at a carnival. The dealer said We put new MDS in it, and wire harness, all Hemi engines make a sound when they are at low speeds and the mds kicks on, just drive it and if a light goes off, then we will know for sure
@Mike weed I have the exact same problem with my 2011 dodge charger rt it sounds like a rattler toy when my foot is off the gas and eco or mds kicks in..I don't have any lights on my dash..I was wondering if any one has found the solution to the problem. If so what may be the cost to fix it
I found after a year of working with my dealership, it is a recall on your timing belt, the clicking your hearing is the timing chain guides and the chain rattling through them. Check online to see if your year is on the timing chain recall. There is also an airbag recall.
Did you ever find out what it was Because I know the answer?
2010 (and some other years) Charger r/t's where all recalled for the timing chain and the guides that keep it in line. got that all done and the car is nice and quiet when going into 4 cyl and back into 8cyl. It was "overlooked" by the dealership.
GuruVT798 What was your answer , as you say you know what it is. Was the timing chain the problem you knew about or something else?
I currently have the same issue. We have changed out the transfer case, and front axel. This issue is very difficult to pin down. I will check for a recall on my 2011 dodge charger RT AWD now. Thanks . There is a video on youtube where someone caught the sound as it happened. My mechanic thinks its something else now.
I see in my records that it was done already. Maybe it needs to be done again?
I've had this noise for about 1 1/2 years, overs 25K miles. I had the timing chain replaced about 2 years ago. I noticed it about a month after replacing the transmission control module. Dealer thought it was the torque converter or transmission. Does seem to be getting louder, but no codes, etc. Anyone have anything new?

I just bought a 2011 charger r/t AWD last week and this exact same thing just started! Anyone else try the timing chain guide replacement and have luck? I called and apparently the previous owner had this recall taken care of already back in 2014, so maybe it needs to be replaced again???
My Eco system in my car nor working. Dodge charger 2010 -3.6 What is the issue?
Crystal2012charg answered 4 years ago
I have a 2012 dodge charger 3.6 that i have had problems with the power steering light coming on, then the traction light, and then the car will completely shut down while going down the road. I had it to dodge dealer that said it was wet connections in a module on passenger side wheel well...they charger 250.00 to clean it. I picked it up drove 30mins down the road and same thing happened. After 1st time shutting down i have to unplug the battery and sit on side on the road for 40min-1hr to be able to drive it a short distance again. I am ready to trade it in but i really luv the car. Oh and when i called the dealership they said bring it back which took 4hrs. After they looked at it again they wanted 1200.00 for now they believe its the power steering module which is located under steering wheel which has blinker/wiper handle attached. But they couldn't say this will fix it for sure. I feel they are going to keep saying its this i pay....then its this...i pay....etc etc. Any ideas or anyone had this problem. I have also limped it down the road as far as possible until motor rpm go up and down wildly then it stalls.
Loud clunk is your front drive shaft / clicking sound when u let foot off gas pedel or comeing down hills slowly is going to be the front cv halfshaft so the clicking noise you here is your cv halfshaft I had same problem in my 2010 awd charger R/T replaced cv halfshaft in front and no clicking anymore
