Why is oil leaking from under the hood after oil change?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my oil changed just the other day and since then I have noticed a leak coming from near the front of the hood. I do remember my husband having a hard time removing the drain cap or whatever its called, but I'm not sure what it could be. I had my husband tightening the filter so hopefully this temporarily fixes the problem until take it to the Dodge Dealership to have them just redo the oil change completely just to redo the oil change.

Sometimes the filter will leak when not properly tightened. I would monitor the oil level and get it back to the dealership as soon as possible.

If the oil filter did have a little oil put on the rubber gasket it will not seal sometimes, check if was cross threaded the filter of drain plug. Also sometimes this rubber gasket that is attached to the filter will come off the old filter and stay with the motor so when a new filter is put on you end up with two gaskets, check if the old filter has its rubber gasket to rule out that.

The oil filter need a little oil applied to the rubber gasket before installing it. the above answer omitted (not have a little oil in the gasket).
