trying to clean my wheels they have caked on brake dust. I am not sure what type of metal they are. don't want to scratch them up it is a truck VIN# is 1ftfx1ev2ake41683

XLT vehicles usually come with aluminum rims. They come from the factory with a coating which suppose to be a barrier between brake dust and the metal. If the coating had been removed the brake dust will eat into the aluminum. Clean the wheels with mild soap, I usually use liquid dish washing detergent. Use a sponge without an abrasive pad attached.
