Car started reaching high RPM, not moving. Got out of car, smelled burning. Checked underneath. Found red hot muffler. Any ideas?

Also, car was shuddering due to engine shuddering. Would stall out when shifting into drive or reverse and giving gas.

Did car reach high rpm because you had your foot on the gas? That would make the engine hot. Is car a manual shift? In that case, the shuddering/ smell would be caused by the bad clutch and it would appear that your engine it shuddering when it is not. Tow it to the garage - do not drive it.

Aparrently the issue was a common one with my car. Carbon buildup on the fuel injectors. Dealership fixed it for free (thank god)

Interesting. I had injector problems on a car I used to have and it just ran a little rough.
