Rear lift gate opens and closes randomly especially when wet

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Just got a 2010 Volkswagen Routan and
noticed the lift gate opening at random when
parked. It will also twitch back and forth
trying to decide if it wants to open or close at
random. Today is the first dry day i’ve Used it
and it seems ok now. Van has 58,000 miles
on it. I’m thinking it water ingress somewhere
but unsure how to correct this issue.

My 2010 Routan did the same thing. The van had been sitting in the rain for few days while I was out of town. When I tried to open the rear gate it acted as if it was blocked-jumped a couple of times and then closed back. I have lots had water in the tail lights before. May be a short due to corrosion?

I had similar issues with my 2010 Apparently these vehicles eat up batteries and I’ve replaced mine 4 times in ten years . I thought it was curtains as all the doors would open randomly , solution .. new battery . If someone can help me get the rear windows closed I’ll love this paid off vehicle once again .
Routans have some electrical system issues. I’d suggest getting it checked out.

My 2011 Routan malfunctioned driving in fog. The shifter would go into a lower than highway gear, then the engine would rev up to 3-4 thousand when I tried to keep it up to speed. That was a week ago. Two days ago I had it parked at my workplace, a blizzard struck and while I got it home with no problems, I tried to drive it a few blocks yesterday, warning lights came on and it died at a fast food place. Someone jumpstarted it for me, I drove it halfway home, lights went dim and then off, and the engine died again apparently from running out of voltage. I got another jump, drove it home, and barely made it as the lights went dim and then off. Today I started it, ran it 5 min to try to warm and recharge it, and it died again. I think moisture is messing with the relays used in it, and maybe with the alternator. It seems way too sensitive to even high humidity and is far too unreliable for me.
