stalls at idle and chatters when given gas

2005 focus zx4 pzev 196k started stalling when idling and chattering when given gas this all happened within ten miles about fifteen min. total time took home check engine light came on in driveway idling.

Have the codes read at your local auto parts for free. This will give you some ideas where to start. I found several threads on www.focusfanatics.com where other owners are having similar issues. Turns out that theirs was caused by a sticking idle air control valve (IAC). Problem solved by them replacing the IAC. Note that a faulty or dirty IAC will not always throw a code. Hope this helps.
