Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Mileage is fair 15 city 19-20 highway. I have a drop in K&N air filter . No other
modifications. I hauled a 20' pontoon from Phoenix to Casper Wy ( 1200
miles) and only got 10 mpg. I am thinking of going to 3" cat back and adding
a chip. " I know nothing " ( schultz ) about chips. Can you give me a little info
on how they work and what brand is highly recommended? Also should I
have re-tuned the engine after dropping in a K&N filter? 76,000 miles and a
fresh set of plugs and fluid changes before trip. Plan on cleaning the throttle
body and possibly replacing sensors ( MAF, O2 Air intake temp ). How would
I know if the sensors need replaced and can I clean them?

10mpg towing is not that bad. Chips do little and usually tune the engine to need premium gas. The other stuff will add a little power but will not increase the fuel economy.

Retuning for a K&N filter is not needed. Any small increase in air flow will be compensated for by the computer.
