SwP motor or replace the heads

Asked by Jerryg661 Jun 13, 2020 at 12:46 PM about the 2010 Dodge RAM 1500 ST RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a 2010 ram 1500 brought to me.
The head gasket is blown. Is it cheaper
to just do a head job on it or just junk
the motor and find another one? I
know my way around a vehicle so ease
of doing the work isn't the problem. We
all know the customer wants to save
as many dimes as possible.

You need to evaluate the rest of the engine. If it has low miles and is in good shape other than the head gasket I would replace the gasket.

Motor has around 180,000. Sounds like it threw a rod. They said it ran until it died. I replaced the water pump about a month ago. They said they ran it till it died then also. Im guessing just look for another motor.
