11/06/17 I had disconnected the battery of my 1 series and closed the boot. To open I used the jump start provisions under the bonnet from a secondary battery to provide a charge through the electrical system and then opened the boot with the remote. Best of luck

This is all BS when there is no battery in the boot. If you make the grave mistake of closing the boot after removing the battery on a 2010 / 2011 BMW 128i you are screwed. There is no KEY hole entry on these models. You can not remove the back seat due to the back rest being bolted from the inside of the boot. Once the battery is removed you can not complete a circuit to jump start.... even my local BMW Dealer has no good answer to re open the boot! How damn stupid is this????

If you remove battery from truck and close trunk on (128I BMW 2011) you will need to put jumper cables on the front to get it open. Take a look at picture.

I have this exact same problem except my battery is still in my car. Can't get the boot open or put the seats down from inside. Also can't find the same battery that is in my car now. There are many available that are AGM. Would it make a difference if I buy an AGM one? I have a 2009 120d coupe sport. Any advice would be great :)

CONFIRMED ENTRY Took the battery of my 1 series coupe to charge at work (not used car over lock down) Obviously when I returned I had same issue. Jumping the emergency terminals didn’t work! Looked at back feeding supply via the rear boot release, wouldn’t work! To get in you will damage one of the rear seat release cables small price to pay. •Remove rear speaker trim •Remove rear speaker •Within the self there is sound deadening foam, directly underneath the foam is the cable to release seat. •Remove some foam to access cable •Cut cable in half exposing the cable inside the sheath •Tug the exposed cable seat side to release the catch. You now have access to the boot space

All the "experts" should have worked all this out before they deliberately either took batteries out or haven't used the car for quite a while. What did you expect? All the answers seem to relate to old models probably without manuals. BMW deliberately make it difficult to break into their models. I have had 6 "Beemers" and tried to keep them suitably serviced and maintained. Some "cheapskates" relish in telling the world about their successes in making their stuff last years and when things go wrong, cry in their beer. I am about to go and charge up my battery which has gone flat over the Covid period, get it re-insured and re: taxed for the road. 24 hour soak charge should do it. Oh yes, I have a manual key to the 2017 model 1 series and opened the doors very easily. I also have a 2019 3 series (latest model) which I absolutely enjoy. Cost me 9 points on my driving licence so far. At 72 I speak from experience - get a manual and read it!!
