Tail lights and brake lights are on separate circuits. If it is just the right side, you may need to trace the wiring from the socket back toward the fuse panel or light switch to find your problem (look for any loose or broken wires but first check for continuity as you go with a meter).

My brake and tail lights would not come off. My battery was ruined. Problem was that grommet at the stem wore out and tab an nail holding grommet came apart. My repairman diagnosed problem. REplaced grommet lights went off. This solution works for 90% of the cases. Repairmen & Dealers know this and have extra grommets on hand. Not a warrantee issue. Not fuse or switch.
