problem

I have an infiniti G37, it has flaps on the inside of trunk for convertible to operate; one has become disconnected. How do you fix it?
Top flap linkage problem I had the same problem twice...right, who was replace 2 years ago by dealer for 1300$, now the left one break down 2 weeks ago...i kept the broken part the first time so, i was able to dismantle it and find what was broken...there is a small metal gear inserted in a bigger one made with plastic!...so all toots of that plastic gear are stripped. I try to sold melted plastic between those 2 gears and, i tough that will fix the issue but...it broke again (to much geared). So im looking for a machine shop near to make a iron gear same as the plastic one...even if i pay 150 or 200$ , it will cost much less than replacing the complete linkage assembly. So, if i end succesfully replace this fuc...cheap plastic gear, and if it works...i will reply informations. Ps: i also found the kinkage maker, who are in Germany, but they dont sell parts to public. So, impossible to get the plastic gear only. To be continued...
the machine shop is the best route..had the same problem...had the machinist cut a square insert for the plastic gear and then press the metal gear into the metal insert..125 bucks...works great...better than spending the 1400 for the whole assembly
Same problem: disassembled the trunk flap and found the stripped plastic gear. Emailed SDP-SI and another gear maker and no luck yet. If you know of a machine shop that can make it please let us know; thanks
The metal gear strips the center of the plastic gear...
The machine shop recommended checking junk yards for the compound/worm gear.
I will try GuruBD4WK's suggestion first
GuruBD4WK - do you have the name of the shop that made your piece? I believe I am having the same problem with mine (one flap quit completely and the other is on it's way out), so the dealership is quoting me around $4300 with labor (I expected this).
I removed the assembly from the trunk. I then drilled out the rivets to get to the gears. You have a small metal gear inside a plastic gear so the metal gear strips the inside of the plastic gear. The machine shop told me I needed the specs from the manufacturer which I did not call (yet). The back of the plastic gear is not stripped so if you push them together it engages. I used apoxy to glue them together. I re-assembled it and it worked. Take careful notes when removing it from the car. The motor, in the flap, connects to the gear assembly via a long flexible pipe. I connected my drill to it so that I could open and close the flap assembly manually. I will upload some photos...
If you need more details I can put something together. I would like to have the worm gear made because I'm sure it will happen again. I've used the top about 5 times so far (1-7-2020)
Questions for GuruBD4WK reagarding the worm gear in the G37 convertible top; Are you able to share a photo or drawing of the square insert? What type of metal was the square metal insert made of that could allow the metal gear be pressed into? Thanks

I had the same issue for my 2012 G37 LH side flapper. I had a replacement gear made and own the files to manufacturer a replacement for the LH side only. I will be selling replacement gears in the near future for a reasonable price.(Guessing $50) I am currently testing the replacement gear in my G37 for longevity. On a side note if anyone has a damaged RH flapper worm drive gear, that they are willing to send me I will do the same for the RH side. The attached picture is of the final gear that was made. The 3d models are made in two different ways. One is a solid unit that a machine shop should be able to use to manufacture a solid metal gear. The second is a direct replacement for the OEM gear. I 3d printed mine from Carbon Fiber Nylon (which is used in many gear applications) and this is the reason I am testing for longevity. My contact info Austin.B.Hill84@gmail.com

Here is the Solid (monolithic) version that could be made from metal via a CNC machine shop. I have not tested this yet.

Here is a picture of the 3D model of the direct OEM gear replacement. This is also the version I used in my personal car and is fully functional.

Update on the gear project. Since my last post I have installed the printed gear and the top has about 15 cycles on it with no issues. As time goes on I will post an update but for now my car is fixed. I am sending printed versions of the gear via eBay and will keep a listing up if anyone needs one. Please email me and I can send you a direct link to the eBay listing. I am charging 50$ for the gear and with shipping it should all be under 60$ total. It took me about 1.5 hrs to replace mine and only thing I had to purchase to complete the repair was some rivets. I am looking for anyone who has the passenger side flipper gear. I would like to have the same process done and be able to supply it to the community too. If you have any questions, or the other gear please email me. Austin.b.hil84@gmail.com
G37GearGuy I was having trouble getting a hold of you. I have a broken piece as well. would you be willing to share the STL file?
G37GearGuy answered 3 years ago
Sorry no I am not willing to sell or share the file. I am trying to recoup the cost of having the file made and doing so by selling gears via eBay. I really feel the current price is more than fair. The dealer quoted me $1400 for a new flapper assembly alone. If you would like to purchase a gear email me at austin.b.hill84@gmail.com or follow the eBay link. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114759098320 I also have a person who will be testing this replacement gear in their 2014 Q60 IPL. I will update this board if it works on that model too.

Just had someone buy and install the gear into a 2014 Q60 and reply back that it worked with no issues.
Good news guy's! I have metal gears made from machine shop nearby, if you need some, i can sell them by pair! Cost way less than a complete linkage from the dealer. Just send me an email at: guy.menard305@videotron.ca.
Hello guys. I reverse-engineered those flapper motor gears, tested them with more than 100 cycles and now have them for sale. They made usingCarbon Fiber reinforced PLA, so they way stronger than OEM plastic gears. And in my opinion its a better option than metal gear because if something goes wrong and flap will meet something on its way - there is still a weak point which will break, BUT will save all other parts of this extremely expensive assembly! For reference purposes I'll post complete assemblies part numbers here: 79913-JJ50A, 79913-JJ50B Here is a link to buy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254978109681#vi-ilComp https://www.ebay.com/itm/254978108941 Please keep in mind that left and right side are different!
This is all good for me to find today. I just had this problem occur a few weeks ago and didn’t understand what was wrong until yesterday. The left flap is not fully extending. I am going to take trunk lid cover off and inspect problem. I may need to contact to order. Thanks for all the info and postings.
Question. How did you get motor out? Did you have to take liner out/off? Open top? Disassemble with removing black bracket? Arm flap support is in way of second screw.
