No warning lights -dash lights come on, starter button shows green. Usually if Start the process over again4-5 times it will catch. Yesterday i thought I was going to have the car towed to the dealer (I have been forced to do this several times). The dealer can’t pin point the problem . I can go a month or more with no problem and then it returns out of nowhere

Search the Owners Manual and related literature for a procedure which explains how to start her up when you have a weak battery in the key fob. Try placing the key fob right up against the push button...push on the brake pedal and attempt the restart. Some vehicles....not all.....you can pop the push button out with your finger nail...and...look in the hole and see a slot. place the key in the fob into the slot for a restart.

I'm having the same problem with my Toyota Camry. The dealership said they can replace the button with a switch to start, but it will cost nearly $500.00. They said not enough people have complained about this issue, so they won't give a discount or count it as a recall.

Bad push button start. I have a 2016 Toyota Camry XSE. Dealership never able to replicate problem. Got it on video. They sent to corporate who said it’s a bad push button start. Still under warranty so they’re fixing it. In a rental now because of this issue that I’ve had since two weeks after buying the car.

Took them a week to resolve and figure out the problem. Still have my doubts. Just annoyed that’s they didn’t believe me from the get go and until i got it on video they actually took action and believed me at the end of the day for now problem is resolved than again i haven’t really driven the car bc I’m afraid it’ll kill

am having this same problem. I bought my 2016 Camry in February of 2016, and the issue started about 3 weeks later. December 2016, I bought a new battery after being told there was no problem, maybe it’s the battery. Has done more since but this summer has increased in occurances. Am now at the dealership service center.

Toyota replaced my push button start. Haven’t had any problems since. Took them long enough to figure it out but at least now the issue is finally resolved. My video recording helped out a lot though as hat was sent to Toyota headquarters who completed the diagnostic check.

Vws.....if you are at the Dealership.....ask them for the result of their Scan Tool Diagnosis including any stored Codes...their numbers and descriptions. Good luck.

It was a 2011 Toyota Camary with a “Push Button Start” feature. The problem became too unpredictable, frustrating and unsolvable because of it’s spontaneous appearance. So, I ended up purchasing a new vehicle. I am sorry that I could not help anyone “RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.” There were “NO WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING” at all which made it even harder to determine the problem. I felt that if I had kept the vehicle, it would have taken “TOO MUCH” TIME AND MONEY; which would have just added up to more and more months of frustration and futility.

Having this no start issue with my 2012 Hybrid. I had the batteries replaced in the key fob but same problem. Unpredictable because sometimes it starts right up and other times not. I noticed this problem seems to occur when I stop the car and turn it off the key symbol is not showing even though I know I turned off the engine. Then when I try to start it, it takes several tries.

I think I would prefer a regular key start car!

Any warning lights on or flashing when the engine is runing? Try pumping the brake pedal several times...then hold the pedal down firmly and attempt the restart.

I have a 2008 Toyota Camry XLE and gave the same issues with this damn car. And it has been going on 4 yrs now, I took it to the Dealer and they could not find the issue. It's not the starter, battery or alternator. It's really annoying I just want to fix the problem.

I'm having the same problem with my 2013 Honda Accord. It may be a universal situation that the car companies don't want to recall and fix!

I’m having the same issue with my 2018 rav4 hybrid . No lights, no warning alarms. Everything works except the engine does not start. You can change gears and even turn the steering wheel. Takes about 5 times of turning vehicle off and restarting to get her going.

Sounds like a trip to the Dealership is required. They have equipment called a Scan Tool. This ST is a computer which will interface with the vehicles MANY Computers and help diagnose the root cause of your issue. Keep us up to date on progress. You might consider a google search for ....SERVICE BULLETINS.....AND YOUR MAKE...MODEL...YEAR.

I NEED YOUR HELP. I have a 2009 toyota camry hybrid with a 218,000 mi, always off/on I have to add oil, otherwise it will mis-spark and will damage the engine. recently I was hospitalized and my wife was driving it, but she didn't add oil so cause the engine to locked up. Toyota dealership asking about $10K to replace engine and the hybrid battery since we tried to startup the car too many times. I found a mechanic to replace a good used engine and revived the hybrid battery . However, I couldn't get the engine to start. I brought it back to Toyota, they want to replace the hybrid battery before they want to go on to troubleshoot any further. PLEASE HELP.. What possible ways I can do to make this engine start.. Any comment will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The car still light up all light on dash like it normally do with VSC stability, all the light comes up like christmas lights. Please help.

Den, did the replacement button pretty much resolve your issue? I’m going to replace mine Monday. I changed the key battery, still no lights on button.

20

I have the same issue with my 2012 Camry V6 XLE. At random times, the car will not start, Had the battery checked and diagnostics revealed no issue at the dealer. Drove the car home, and the next day it failed to start again. The secret may be to press the star button without your foot on the brake several times, then hold down the brake, wait about 10 seconds, then try to start. That will be my attempted fix next time it happens. Will report back with results.

21,980

Based on the above comments over the last 3 years....my guess is you need to replace the push button. Look in your Owners Manual for this vehicle. Is there a description on how to remove the push button and perform a manual start?

Tony, We replaced the push button and it didn’t help anything. I’m starting to think the actual keyless system unit has went bad?

21,980

Here is another thought. Next time you go to start this vehicle.....with your foot firmly on the brake pedal....hold the Key Fob right up against the push button ...hold it there for a few seconds... then see if she will start up.

1 people found this helpful.
50

Tony, We’ve tried that... unfortunately, it didn’t help. This is our issue: The battery is sitting at a full charge, so it’s not that. The keyfob’s battery is brand new. When I walk up to the car, I can press the button on the door handle to unlock the door without using the key fob... the button fails to unlock the door. But, I can enter the vehicle and toggle the unlock/lock switch on the drivers door and it WILL unlock/lock the doors. I hold the brake pedal down, push the button, nothing. Only light on dash is door ajar.

2 people found this helpful.
21,980

Door is ajar? Maybe that's why the push button will not start this vehicle. A computer on the car thinks there is a door open...ajar? Open and close a door. Attempt a restart. Another door....Attempt a restart. Try all 4 doors.

21,980

So.....9zh....did you ever resolve the issue with your vehicle?

50

No, still not fixed. I try starting the Camry with the door opened and closed. All doors can be closed with no start. Shouldn’t the button turn the car to ACC or something? Because nothing is happening at all.

2 people found this helpful.
21,980

Hmmmm.....the Owners Manual may help to answer that question. Is there a small light on the button that turns green when you push to start?

20

FYI - if you hear a long beep when you killed the engine, it is the battery for the fob. Odd I did not find it documented anywhere.

21,980

Interesting...Thanks for the input. And the mystery continues...........

50

Tony, No light on button. Button has also been replaced, neither new nor old button had a light.

1 people found this helpful.
21,980

Ok......from where I sit......if that door ajar light is on when all doors are closed....I think there is a connection between that and the no start condition. When the engine does start and run....is the DA light on?

1 people found this helpful.
10

Tony, it 9ZH... currently have Camry pulled in shop. The key DOES unlock/lock the door from the outside, from the buttons on the door handle and on the fob. Pulled codes, there is a ID box code and a steering lock ECU code. Maybe my issue is the ECM?

1 people found this helpful.
10

Might I add, the security/immobilizer light is flashing while I am sitting inside the vehicle with the key

21,980

While in shop...have the Tech look up Toyota Technical Service Bulletins For your Issue. Start with...T-SB-0022-11.....and....TBS-15-005. Good Luck.

Hi! I've been having this problem for the last couple months or so with my 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE. The warning lights all come on and sometimes the green "Ready" will come on immediately while other times (majority of them) the car doesn't start until I replace the key fob battery. This is extremely frustrating as it spontaneously decides whether it will or will not work, or so it seems. Note, I've replaced the key fob battery several times within the matter of a week just to get the car to start and can't figure out why it's going through batteries so fast. Another stranger factor, in the past week I've discovered that sometimes even when there is no battery in the key fob I've been able to turn on the car and get it to start (again, at very random times). After reviewing this thread, will replacing the push to start button help this issue? Can't trace the problem as I've tried using my spare keys and still have this issue, can't tell if it has to do with weather (which I live in CA so find it hard to believe), and have gone through 6 CR 2032's in the matter of a week. Please help!

My 2013 Camry XLE often does not respond to the remote, with new, tested batteries in both remotes and brand new vehicle battery. It also won’t start if I enter manually. After waiting a while it unlocks and starts.
