Can you explain what an e-vac is? Also do you know what this normally cost?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2011 Ford Edge light came on. My mechanic said something about it need an e-vac or something. He said the machine was expensive and they don't have one. He hooked the car up to the electronic machine and this is what it showed. My car has a little over 100,000 miles on it. I had the spark plugs changed and the light is off now but it will probably come back on soon as it has twice before.

The EVAP system absorbs the gas fumes that evaporate from your gas tank. Here is a generic diagram of an EVAP system.

Thanks full_of_regrets and Js8016 . This is very helpful. I'll be looking for another mechanic so I can get this test done.
