My Ford 2011 Edge often gives me the message "shift to park" when I turn off the car.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Ford 2011 Edge often gives me the message "shift to park" when I turn off the car. The car is fully in park. I have to push the button on the gear shift and jiggle the gear shift for it to finally acknowledge it's in park (by sliding the seat back and the message goes away). Sometimes I have to shift it to drive and back again, before jiggling to get it into park. Naturally the dealer could not duplicate the problem and so could not find an issue to fix. Any suggestions?

sounds like the shift cable is kinked or faulty... check for recalls first

My 2011 started doing the same thing last week. Mine has left then 23,000 miles but just out of warrenty. I have contacted Ford customer service and am waiting on an answer to help with the cost of repair if possible, seems they need to recall them over this...

OK, My 2011 Ford Edge has been saying Shift to Park and has been to the dealer several times to have this problem fixed. Each time, they say it is fixed. They've replaced the sensors. They're puzzled. They said they're contacting Ford to see what solution they may have to fix the problem. Luckily I still have a warranty on this thing. Very Frustrating. Been without my car for over a week now. :(

Replace the entire shifter (http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/11282-shift-to-park-warning-when-its-in-park/). I have the MKX.
Problem is in the shift assembly. I have the same issue on my 2013 Edge..

Seems " the message "shift to park" when I turn off the car " a common issue I think with so many issues and elevated cost Ford want to charge we should make it a RECALL issue if you agree with me send me a note jalgarrobo@gmail.com Ontario,Canada
