The monthly payment you see on the vehicle ads are a guide. They are not set in stone. When financing a vehicle there are several variables. Things like the vehicle price, your cash downpayment amount, the value of your trade in, your personal credit score, the interest rate of the loan, and the length of time you want the loan for. The internet rate on a ten year old vehicle will be much higher than on a newer vehicle as well. Finance companies really don't want to finance a vehicle that's more than six years old. There's a much greater chance of the vehicle breaking down and the owner getting disgusted with it, then walking away from it. So the lender is taking a greater risk lending on an older model. I always lock in my payment amount before I finalize the deal and sign the paperwork. So I know exactly how much my payments will be. If it's not what I want, I walk away. There's plenty of other Dealers out there to buy a vehicle from. Hope that helps! Jim

If you didn't know, Cargurus uses third party lenders like Westlake for financing. You yourself have to really look at the amount your are financing, the interest rate, (lower is better) and the length of the loan for a total monthly payment. Did the dealer use their own bank for financing? If your payments ended up higher than the Cargurus estimate I am sorry. I would have to assume the numbers the dealer gave you happened to be higher in all or some part of the equation. I would have questioned the numbers at Bill Gatlin while you were signing the paperwork. In some instances interest rates and purchase price can be negotiated. You had an option to walk away and not be dissatisfied.
