2011 Lincoln MKX waterpump caused water to go in my engine
Best Answer
My sister has a 2011 Lincoln MKX and her
water pump sheared off or something! Her
car quit, got it towed to a Lincoln dealer and
they say she has water in the motor and
would be cheaper to put a new motor in her
car!!!! $7,000. Wow! Do Lincoln’s have
defaulty water pumps in these high dollar
cars?? Just seems really weird to me in such
a newer car! Has anyone else had this
problem? Anyone have a solution??

How many miles on the engine? How well maintained was it? Those two factors are much more important than the age of the vehicle. Without being able to see vehicle, we can only go off dealer assessment that the engine is toast. She can probably find a remanufactured engine for less than 7K. Shop around.

I can't image how a failed water pump on this engine, or any other engine, could allow water (coolant) into the engine and ruin it. I would get a second opinion on this one. $7000 is still a lot of money. No doubt that's what an engine costs installed, but who can prove that's what happened? I think somebody is a liar!
The car has about 145,000 mikes but oil changed every 4,000 Miles!! She always takes very good care of car maintenance!
Ford put the water pump IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. When it goes bad it can leak directly onto the engine's oil system. The "old" style engine's had the water pump on the outside of the engine. If it failed any coolant just fell on the ground. Usually you would see a puddle on your garage floor alerting you to a problem.

I hae the same problem 2011 mkx in my driveway. Water pump went out & caused engine to fail. I took great care of my MKX. Im very upset. I think Ford should do a recall and be responsible to help fix. The water pump shouldve stayed on the outside. I had to buy a new car. The dealership offered me $1000. 3 weeks prior they put an oil sending unit in my car & flushed my cooling system. I took my car back to dealer 2 times after they worked on it.The change oil light kept coming on but they said it had nothing to do with my failed engine. They said they just forgot to reset it. I dont beleive them. I want my car fixed. I think the dealership did somethig wrong and they wont admit it. Before they put in the oil sending unit, my car ran like silk. No problems. How can i find out if they did were negligent?
I have the exact issue with my 2011 MKX. Car has been babied. Has 134,000 miles and now I'm being told it's only worth scrap metal. It's way too beautiful to just throw away!!

i have read where a guy said the 3.5 and 3.7 are great engines, OTHER THAN THE WATER PUMP. the design is good other than that. no one and i litterly mean NO ONE make a car to bee services any more other than by the dealer. my wifes 2011 just failed, and since i'm retired i don't have the funds to take it to a shop and spend the estimated 1500.00 to 2500.00 to fix it, can't afford to replace it either. so it's in my garage and i'm going to fix it. the claim is 14 hours for the repair, it will take me longer because i take pictures of just about every thing.

THERE IS A DRAIN HOLE IN THE FRONT OF ENGINE BLOCK SO WHEN WATER PUMP STARTS TO LEAK GOES INTO DRAIN HOLE AND DRIPS OUT THE FRONT PROBLEM IS THE DRAIN HOLE IS ONLY 1/8 I.D. AND GETS PLUGED UP WITH DIRT AFTER MANY MILES SO WITH THAT BEING PLUGGED ANTI-FREEZE LEAKS INTO OIL PAN NOW YOU HAVE OIL AND COOLANT MIXED AND WIPES OUT ROD AND MAIN BEARINGS SO THE DEALER IS CORRECT I WILL NO LONGER REPLACE WATER PUMPS ON 3.5 OR 3.7 I REPLACE THE ENGINE
