I recently moved to germany from the US and ever sine I got my car from the port it has been acting funny. It seems to skip if I push the gas to hard to get to a fast speed which is more than likely a transmission issue. But also, my oil light is acting up. It came on when I first drove it from port and then went away after a short while. Now, this past weekend while driving at a speed of around 100mph t came back on saying I have less than minimum amount of oil. So, I put a quart of oil as the manual suggests and was about to change the oil, but as I was driving to the shop I checked my oil and now I have right up to the maximum amount of oil? Something seems off. Is it some kind of sensor? Should I just have it ran through the computer check to see what the problem is? It is a BMW 328i 2011

Yes, when it comes on it is yellow. But, as of right now the oil light is not on. So, I'm not sure if the oil is ok or is low because this weekend it said it was low and now it is at the max. I guess my best bet would be to take it to the dealership right and have them check it?

The light comes on when you're a quart low. If the light came on and you put a quart in, then it should be full when you check it.

How would adding one quart make it entirely full? I saw some oil around the filter container so Im also thinking a gasket might have broke.

I wiped it clean around the area and I will check it in two days to see if the oil reappears.

You were only one quart low when the light came on. If the light came on when you were completely empty then it would be too late; you would have already experienced engine failure. 1) engine is full of oil 2) engine burns a little oil between changes (not a big deal) 3) engine sensor comes on when you have lost one quart of oil 4) you put one quart into the engine when it's one quart low 5) you are no longer one quart low If you leaked an entire quart of oil, you should have seen a puddle of oil somewhere along the line. Good luck!
