Spare Tire

I no longer have Run Flat tires on my 328 xI and would like to purchase a spare
tire. I was told that I will need to buy two rims and two tires as the front width is
8 1/2 and the rear is 8. Is this true?

I also travel with a runflat mounted spare tire. The BMW service mngr. claimed this practice wasn't safe, as a spare tire is not meant to be looseley stowed in the trunk.
Damaged accord had tire well with no hold down for spare. the little mound of sheet metal for the hold down was broken off. Eye bolt on both sides of well and nylon straps wrapped around tire. some old clothes, jumper cables and misc emergency stuff filled in around the tire and its snug. That space inside rim is handy. Curious, even with need for two sizes of spare, I've had cars with tiny donuts that were much smaller than those on car, made driving uneasy but it got me to repair facility.
